10 ways to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Edmonton

EDMONTON – As we prepare to close the book on 2014, here’s a list of New Year’s Eve activities in the Edmonton area on Dec. 31 for you and yours.

New Year’s Eve Edmonton Downtown

When: 7 p.m. -12:15 a.m.
Where: Churchill Square and City Hall
Cost: Free
Details: It’s the annual New Year’s Eve festival in downtown Edmonton. The family event features both indoor and outdoor activities, performances, hay rides, fireworks and more!

Frozen on the Square

When: 7:15 p.m.
Where: City Hall Plaza
Cost: Free
Details: Bring a chair and a warm blanket and head to City Hall Plaza to enjoy a special free outdoor showing of the movie Frozen on an inflatable screen. You can also bring your skates and watch the movie while you use the rink.

(NOTE: During the celebrations, a number of road closures and parking bans will be in effect. Between 9 p.m. on the 31 and 12:45 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2015, areas around 97 Street to 101 Street and 101 Avenue to 102 Avenue may be affected.

Also, Edmonton transit will be free from 6 p.m. and will continue until 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2015)

New Year’s Eve Festival

When: 4 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Where: Broadmoor Lake Park, Festival Place, Strathcona County
Cost: Free
Details: Indoor and outdoor activities, including ice skating, ice slide, games, crafts, sleigh rides and fireworks at 8 p.m.

Family Fest

When: 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Where: Heritage Park, Stony Plain
Cost: Please bring Food Bank donation
Details: live entertainment, food, kids’ games, wagon rides and fireworks

World Waterpark’s Family Beach Ball 2014

When: 6 p.m. – midnight
Where: World Water Park, West Edmonton Mall
Cost: $29.95 per person, $79.92 for family of four
Details: Ring in 2015 by splashing in the wave pool or speeding down the slides, topped off with a fireworks display

Muttart Masquerade New Year’s Eve

When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Muttart Conservatory (9626 96A Street)
Cost: Regular admission
Details: Bring the family to the Muttart and celebrate the New Year early at a masquerade ball. Visitors are invited to come in costume and enjoy the live music, crafts, and fun activities for everyone.

New Year’s Eve at Fort Edmonton Park

When: 3 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Where: Fort Edmonton Park
Cost: General admission rates ($18 per adult, $13 per child)
Details: Step back in time to Christmas past and spend time with family in a winter wonderland.

Gotham New Year’s Eve Party at the Red Piano

When: Dinner starts at 6 p.m. Show begins at 9 p.m.
Where: The Red Piano, West Edmonton Mall
Cost: $165 per person (dinner and show), $55 (show only)
Details: The Red Piano presents dinner, dancing, and live duelling piano show.

15th Annual Latin New Years

When: Doors open at 6 p.m. Dinner at 7:45 p.m. Dance at 9 p.m.
Where: Delta Edmonton South
Cost: $60 (dance only), $89 (early bird dinner and dance)
Details: Sit down and relax to the beautiful Latin rhythms of International Bachata artist Domenic Marte and Tremendo from Puerto Rico. Local artist Edgar Cruz will open.

Boodang New Year’s Eve with Tiesto

When: Starts at 7 p.m.
Where: Shaw Conference Centre
Cost: $119 (Regular) $195 (VIP)
Details: One of the biggest DJs in the world returns to Edmonton to perform on the most celebrated night of the year.
