WINNIPEG – Oliver James Okemow was charged with manslaughter Sunday in the beating death of Wayne Michael Harper, 31, in May.
Harper was killed on May 30 after he was assaulted by a group of men while sleeping outdoors in St. James in Winnipeg, police said in a news release Tuesday.

The men, who knew Harper, found him sleeping in the area of the 600 block of Century Street shortly before noon and assaulted him, police allege.
The group fled and a passerby found Harper, who was taken to hospital and pronounced dead.
