EDMONTON – Two children were among those killed in a two-vehicle collision on a central Alberta highway Sunday afternoon.
Rimbey RCMP said the fatal crash on Highway 20 at Township Road 420 happened at 1 p.m., about nine kilometres south of the town. Police, along with paramedics and fire rescue crews from Rimbey and Bentley responded.
Officers said a northbound vehicle crossed the centre line and collided with an SUV travelling the other way. A man, driving alone in the northbound vehicle, died at the scene.

There were five people in the SUV. One child was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. A second child, a three-year-old boy, was critically injured. He was airlifted to Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary in life-threatening condition, but later died of his injuries.
The other three injured people were taken to the Red Deer hospital with serious injuries.
A section of Highway 20 was shut down for several hours on Sunday while collision analysts investigated. Police said weather and road conditions were factors in the crash. Alcohol was ruled out. Police said more information would be released once the victims’ families were notified.
