MORE: Increase in Saskatoon garage fires alarming officials
It’s the tenth garage fire in the city since Oct. 1, causing more than half-a-million dollars in damage. Last year, there were four garage fires from the beginning of October to the end of December.
Saskatoon Fire Department officials say the fires have started for various reasons: welding, unattended cooking, overheated cords and arson. As many garages have flammable material and no smoke detectors, officials say caution should be exercised when using heat sources.
