WATCH: Police believe sexual assaults that occurred in Richmond Hill and Mississauga may be linked. Cindy Pom reports.
TORONTO – Two violent sexual assaults committed over a year apart and in two different cities, are linked, York Regional Police said Monday.
The first assault took place near South Service Road and Crestview Avenue in Mississauga on Sept. 27, 2013 at approximately 12 a.m. when a man brandished a weapon, grabbed the victim and pulled her into a dark area where he sexually assaulted her.

Police say she sustained minor injuries as a result.
The second attack, on Nov. 13, 2014 in Richmond Hill, was similar in nature. The man approached a woman, pulled out a weapon and demanded money. He then dragged the woman to a dark area where he sexually assaulted her, police said.
The woman was taken to hospital for treatment following the attack, police said.

Police believe the two incidents are linked and say the man appears to be targeting and overpowering women with a slight build who are getting off public transit at night.
Police say he is between five foot ten inches and six feet tall, with a muscular build and a medium skin tone and was wearing a covering over his face.
York police ask anyone with information to call police or Crime Stoppers.
