New Democratic Party (NDP)- Peter Prebble has lived in Saskatoon for the past 34 years and served as the NDP MLA for Saskatoon Greystone from 1999 to 2007. In the last NDP government, he served as a minister in the portfolios of the public service commission, corrections and public safety and the office of energy conservation. He has also authored a 2007 report that put in place an aggressive plan to reduce green house gas emissions in the province and fight climate change. He holds an undergraduate degree in business administration and separate Masters Degrees in sustainable environmental management and education from the University of Saskatchewan. Outside of politics, Prebble served as the coordinator for Saskatoon Communities for Children from 1994 to 1999. More recently, he was employed as the director of energy and water policy for the Saskatchewan Environmental Society. He is married to Louise Gagne, a family doctor.

Saskatchewan Party- (Incumbent) Rob Norris was born and raised in Alberta. He has an M.A. (Alberta, with courses completed in Saskatchewan) and a B.A. with distinction (Lethbridge) in political science, with graduate research relating to Canadian foreign policy. During college, he worked for a community newspaper and as a teaching assistant within the Native Studies program at the University of Lethbridge. He moved to Saskatchewan in 1994. During graduate school, he was a teaching assistant at the University of Saskatchewan (U of S) and taught courses focusing on Canadian government for SIAST and the U of S Extension Division.Norris also served as a Legislative Assistant within the Canadian House of Commons with his primary duties being related to foreign policy. He began work at the University of Saskatchewan International in 1999, and between 2004 and 2007 he served as the Coordinator of Global Relations at the U of S.
He served as the Minister of Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration, the Minister responsible for SaskPower, and the Minister responsible for Innovation.
Rob is married to Dr. Martha Smith-Norris, a history professor at the University of Saskatchewan and they have a daughter.
