EDMONTON – Christmas may still be a couple weeks away, but on Tuesday night, Santa brought smiles to a room full of sick children forced to live away from home for the time being.

Armed with hugs and presents, Santa dropped by the Ronald McDonald House much to the delight of kids like five-year-old Joel, who’s waiting for a heart transplant.

“Having a chronically ill child, the days aren’t always great,” said Joel’s mother, Angela Grimard.

So [this] just gives us something else to think about, and have a special time especially with the holidays coming up.”

“It’s so important to make these families feel at home,” said Jenny Scrivens of the Ronald McDonald House. “They’re here at a time of crisis, they’re here during a time of need. If we can make it feel a little more comfortable, almost like they’re back home, then we’re just taking one stress away from this time of crisis right now.”

Staff at the Ronald McDonald House also plan on taking the kids on a trip to Candy Cane Lane.

Anyone who wishes to drop off gifts for the children can check the Ronald McDonald House ‘wish list.’
