SASKATOON – The Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce released a report on accelerating growth in the north Monday at the Sheraton Cavalier hotel in Saskatoon. The Northern Business Task Force Report outlines 12 recommendations to boost development.

Those include better regulation of electricity rates, broader telecommunications coverage, flexible ice road closure dates and increasing subsidies for healthy food. The chamber says this development would give the province a big economic boost.

“If you fly over northern Saskatchewan, you’ll see it’s an untapped area and there’s so much potential up there for resource development,” said Geoff Gay, task force co-chair.

“There’s an untapped workforce up there, so the more we improve the lives for northerners, it’s going to engage them in the economy.”
