MONTREAL – A young woman is in critical condition after she was run over by a freight train in Montreal.
According to authorities, the 22-year-old was spotted by a train conductor at around 6:30 a.m. Monday, lying near the tracks not too far from the CN train yard near Bridge and Wellington Streets.
She apparently had been there for some time. She was conscious and breathing, but cold and in shock; both her legs had been amputated in the accident.
She was transported to hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Investigators are uncertain why she was in the area at the time.
This is the second freight-train related accident in less than two years. Last June, a 30-year-old woman was critically injured after being run over by a freight train as she was trying to cross a rail track in the Old Port of Montreal.
