Green Day musician Jason White diagnosed with tonsil cancer

TORONTO — Green Day revealed Friday guitarist Jason White was recently diagnosed with tonsil cancer.

“Jason recently underwent a routine tonsillectomy, and his doctors discovered a treatable form of tonsil cancer,” read a statement on the rock band’s Facebook page.

“Thankfully they caught it early and he should make a full and speedy recovery.”

White has played on Green Day albums and tours since 1999 but wasn’t made an official member until 2012.

Green Day hasn’t released an album of new material in two years. A big screen adaptation of the band’s successful rock opera, American Idiot, is reportedly in development.

Green Day is among the nominees for induction in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year.
