TORONTO — The pilot for a potential new series about the people who work behind the scenes on concert tours will be filmed in Vancouver next month.

The comedy Roadies will shoot from Jan. 19 to Feb. 11. The production will be based at North Shore Studios.

On Monday, it was announced the pilot will star Luke Wilson (Old School), Imogen Poots (That Awkward Moment), Keisha Castle-Hughes (Whale Rider), Peter Cambor (NCIS: Los Angeles) and Rafe Spall (Prometheus).

The one-hour pilot for U.S. cable channel Showtime will be directed by Oscar-winning screenwriter Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous), who wrote the script.

“We’re fans of crews, those workers up on the rigging towers, or walking feverishly with eight phones on their belt,” Crowe told The Hollywood Reporter in June. “Those quietly devoted people live huge lives, they’re often the real keepers of the flame. So happy to also be telling these stories.”

Roadies is the first TV project for the 57-year-old, whose credits include big screen hits like Jerry Maguire and Vanilla Sky and flops like 2011’s We Bought A Zoo.

Crowe recently wrapped a still-untitled movie starring Canadians Rachel McAdams and Jay Baruchel along with Bill Murray, Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone.

Roadies is also a natural for Crowe, who based Almost Famous on his own experiences as a Rolling Stone contributor and directed documentaries about Tom Petty and Pearl Jam.

Crowe was married for 24 years to Nancy Wilson of Vancouver-founded rock band Heart.

Executive producers on the project include J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Trek Into Darkness), whose now-defunct series Fringe, Alcatraz and Almost Human were made in Vancouver.
