Plane breaks through ice at Chestermere Lake

CALGARY- The pilot of an Ultra-light plane had a close call Wednesday afternoon east of Calgary when he landed on Chestermere Lake.

The 2003 Ultra-light model plane had landed safely and was taxiing along the shoreline when one of its skis broke through soft ice, causing the plane to tilt and damaging the propeller.

The pilot, a 67- year-old Calgary man, was not injured.

Chestermere Emergency Services responded to the crash at around 2:20 p.m.

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating; RCMP do not expect to lay any charges.
