WATCH: Crime Stoppers: Kim Fofonove

It’s a mysterious and violent death that happened more than three decades ago.

Kim Fofonove, 21, was at a rugby tournament when things went terribly wrong. Now, Crime Stoppers needs your help to finally uncover some answers.

In the fall of 1978, Fofonove was finishing a criminology degree at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby.

On October 7, he was found unconscious outside the Trail Hotel located at 531 Second Street in the city of Trail.

Fofonove had recently been accepted into the RCMP and to stay in shape, he joined a rugby club.

His team had won two games that fateful day and were celebrating at a local pub. After winning several rounds of pool, Fofonove stepped out the front door for some air.

He was viciously assaulted in the parking lot. At the time, a coroner’s inquest called it ‘death by misadventure,’ but years later, a review of the autopsy report re-classified it as second-degree murder.

Kim’s mother is now in her late 80s. She hopes someone’s conscience will compel them to come forward with the truth so she can finally have peace of mind.  If you have any information on this case, call police, or if you wish to remain anonymous, visit BCCrimeStoppers.com or call 1-800-222-8477.
