Calgary- It was a sea of red all day at bars around Calgary Sunday, with fans throwing their own Grey Cup party to watch the Stampeders take on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at BC Place in Vancouver Sunday.

Stampeders fans have been waiting a long time to cheer on their home team in the Grey Cup, so they didn’t hold back.

They brought their pom-poms, wore their jerseys and yelled as loud as they could at TV screens around the Shark Club in south Calgary until the very last second of the game.

The last few minutes kept fans on edge. The Tiger-Cats were just one touchdown away from pulling the Grey Cup from under the Stampeders feet.

“Intense, the last few plays were almost heart racing, I felt like I’m was going into cardiac arrest.”

The clock slowly ticked away but the Calgary Stampeders held on to become the 102nd Grey Cup Champions and take their 7th Grey Cup.

“The last two minutes of the game seems like an eternity. But they pulled it off,” one fan said with a sigh of relief.

As the red and white confetti fell on the field at BC Place, back home, blow horns and cheers went off while stamps fans jumped in the air with excitement, sharing hugs with friends and strangers.

Glorian Jacobson has been a fan for more than 30 years.

“Yay! That’s so great. We’ve wanted this for a long time and it’s our deal,” Jacobson cheered.

“They’ve really put a lot of work and effort into this year and the fans have come together and everything, it’s been amazing.”

The grey cup matchup made a sibling rivalry between two brothers, that much sweeter.

“I’m a stamps fan and he’s a Ticats fan, so I think it’s the best makings of the game right now,” Brett Fitzpatrick said.
