Hunter shot near Loon Lake, Sask.

LOON LAKE, Sask. – A man is facing charges after a hunter was shot Wednesday in northern Saskatchewan. RCMP say the man was shot on the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation near Loon Lake, Sask. after leaving his hunting blind to go back to his vehicle, suffering a gunshot wound to his hip.

He crawled to his vehicle and contacted family who then contacted Loon Lake RCMP. Officers treated the man until paramedics arrived, who took him to Meadow Lake Hospital.

He was then transported to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon for treatment. The extent of his injuries are unknown.

Mounties say the shot came from a roadway where a blue truck was seen. Officers were able to locate the driver and found he was also out hunting at the same time.

Glenn Cantre, who is from the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation, has been charged with criminal negilence causing bodily harm and careless use of a firearm.

Cantre has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Loon Lake provincial court on Jan. 15, 2015. Police say he is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
