WINNIPEG – The life sentence for a woman who set a deadly fire that killed five people in Winnipeg will stand.

Court dismissed Lulonda Flett’s appeal, CJOB reported Wednesday morning.

Flett pleaded guilty to five counts of manslaughter for the July 2011 fire at an Austin Street rooming house.

Her lawyer argued her sentence was too harsh given her troubled background and cognitive issues.

But the Crown says the judge was correct to hand down the life sentence, given the loss of life and deliberate nature of the crime
