Calgary bracing for cold and snowy blast of winter

Calgary could see up to 19 centimetres of snowfall by Wednesday night. Dani Lantela

CALGARY- The city of Calgary could be blanketed with up to 19 centimetres of snow by Wednesday night according to Global Calgary weather specialist Paul Dunphy.

“The snowfall we’re projecting is a result of Pacific moisture overriding Arctic air,” says Dunphy.

Environment Canada is projecting 7 centimetres of snow in the same time frame and has issued a special weather statement for Calgary. The statement warns of the potential for heavy snowfall in parts of Southern Alberta later this week, followed by cold temperatures that could break the minus 30 Celsius threshold.

Dunphy says the forecast model he’s relying upon projects two centimetres of snow by midnight, another two centimetres by 7:30 a.m., and a total of 19 centimetres by the end of Wednesday.
