WINNIPEG – A drawing of a bomb threat scrawled on a Red River College chalkboard has prompted an extensive investigation and heightened police presence on the Notre Dame Avenue campus, school officials said.
The drawing indicated the threat was for Nov. 21, according to an email forwarded to Global News.
Winnipeg police were notified and a search was done, but officials now believe the drawing was “likely an ill-advised prank.”
It is illegal to make such threats.
Winnipeg police confirmed they will have officers at the campus and the college plans to have an additional four security officers on duty as a precaution.
“The investigation is continuing utilizing video surveillance and other intelligence available,” said a letter to students from Red River College. “Any hoax or threat of a bomb is a criminal code offence and individuals may be charged.”
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story referred to “an ill-advised threat” in error — the correct quote is “ill-advised prank.”
