CTrain smashes into truck in downtown Calgary

CALGARY – Emergency crews rushed to the scene of a collision between a CTrain and a truck in downtown Calgary on Thursday.

Police say the train struck the truck when it crossed over the tracks while travelling westbound on 4th Avenue S.W., near the intersection with 9th Street S.W.

The collision caused damage to the truck but no injuries were reported.

The incident caused the closure of westbound 4th Avenue at 8th Street S.W.

Calgary Transit brought in shuttle buses to transport affected passengers who were using the 201 line.

Later that evening, emergency crews rushed to the City Hall LRT Station after a teenager was struck by a CTrain.

Witnesses say the victim was hit twice by trains travelling in both directions.

He was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Then, around 9 p.m., a CTrain derailed and crashed into the City Hall platform.
