Cold weather has brought ski season to the Lower Mainland a little earlier this year.
Whistler Mountain announced today that they’ll be opening this Saturday, November 22.
That’s five days ahead of schedule, as Whistler becomes the latest mountain to open ahead of time.

“Our snowmaking team has been working hard to take advantage of this early season cold snap in Whistler and has converted over 60 million gallons of water into snow over the past few weeks,” says Doug MacFarlane, Director of Mountain Operations.

“Their efforts, combined with the natural snowfall we have already received at higher elevations, has enabled us to get things rolling early again this year. And with more natural snow in the forecast for later this week, it should be a fun opening weekend.”
Blackcomb Mountain will still open on its previously scheduled time on November 27, and officials are reminding people to stay on open runs only.
While the cold weather has helped mountains open ahead of season, it will be warming back up to typical November temperatures in Metro Vancouver very soon.
“Locally, we’re going get a little milder the rest of the week with some rain tomorrow night,” says Global BC meteorologist Mark Madryga.
“Because of the higher altitudes, Whistler will get a big dump of snow.”
