Suncor to provide mandatory bear training for workers

CALGARY – Suncor has made bear training mandatory for its workers following the death of an employee killed in a bear attack, earlier this year.

The company Bear Safety and More will provide the training, which is being introduced after the death of Lorna Weafer back in May.

The 36-year-old was working at the Suncor Oilsands site north of Fort McMurray when she was attacked by a black bear.

The owner of Bear Safety and More says Suncor started looking at its policies for managing bears after the attack, and decided to upgrade them.

Training will now be mandatory for all employees, including contract workers.
