HAMILTON – A 23-year-old man has been arrested in what Hamilton police describe as a “disturbing” series of burglaries in the southern Ontario city.
About 150 women’s undergarments are among the items reported taken from homes in Hamilton’s east end and mountain areas.
Police say more than $200,000 worth of stolen goods have been recovered, and other items taken included jewelry, sunglasses, cellphones and other electronics.
Det.-Sgt. Glenn Jarvie says the random burglaries took place during daytime hours over a four-month period beginning in July.
Alexander Dzonov, of Hamilton, faces six counts of break-and-enter, nine counts of possession of stolen property and three other charges.
Jarvie says the fact that women’s underwear was being taken helped police link the burglaries.
“That is what brought it to the forefront – it was one of the items, along with the modus operandi of the accused that identified the pattern between the entries,” he said Monday.
Police say they are hoping to return the stolen items to their rightful owners.
