An elementary school in Nanaimo was on lock down this morning after an 11-year-old student threatened to harm himself.
RCMP were called to the Brechin Elementary School at about 10:30 a.m. this morning after reports of a youth with a knife.
It is currently unknown why the student went into a cooking class, picked up a knife and ran outside the school with it. Police located the young boy on a playing field and negotiated with him for 90 minutes before he dropped the knife.
All the students at the school stayed inside during the incident.
The 11-year-old was taken into custody by officers. Due to his age, no charges will be laid.
The guardians of the youth were at the school during the incident.
