Poppy donation theft at Montreal’s Jewish General Hospital

MONTREAL – Montreal police are asking for the public’s help after a man made off with $350  in poppy box donations.

The theft happened Thursday Nov. 6 at Montreal’s Jewish General Hospital.

Montreal police spokesperson Danny Richer told Global News, that a man approached the table where Sara Bernstein was distributing poppies and grabbed the donation box as she had her back turned.

Surveillance video then shows the man calmly leaving the building with the can in his hand.

The donations are part of the Royal Canadian Legion’s yearly Poppy Campaign. The money raised is used to support services intended for Canadian veterans.

There have been a string of thefts of poppy box donations across the country, but Richer insists it is a rare thing.

Police are still trying to identify the man in the surveillance video and are asking for anyone with information to contact Info-Crime at 514-393-1133.
