EDMONTON – Alberta NDP Leader Rachel Notley is asking the auditor general to take a broader look at the activities of the former Redford government now that police are investigating.

Notley says it’s important to learn more because many of those around Redford are still sitting in the cabinet of Premier Jim Prentice.

Notley has also asked Prentice to join with her on the request and see that the work gets done on a priority basis.

Alberta RCMP confirmed last week it is conducting a criminal investigation into the spending and travel practices of Redford and her staff.

This summer, auditor general Merwan Saher reported Redford flew herself, her daughter, and her daughter’s friends around on government planes for personal benefit.

Saher says occasionally Redford’s flights were falsely presented as being fully booked, and a government memo later suggested that could lead to criminal charges of fraud and breach of trust.
