After months of extensive repairs, the city is preparing to reopen most of Bowness Park on Monday, November 10th, just in time for the winter skating season.
It’s been a long road to recovery for one of Calgary’s oldest and most popular parks after last June’s devastating flood.
The 30 hectare park in the city’s northwest was in the middle of redevelopment when the Bow River spilled its banks, the flood waters washing away a brand new parking lot and damaging the lagoon, pathways, public washrooms and other facilities.

Most of the park was covered in a thick layer of silt with damage estimated at $3.2 million.
Three-quarters of the park will open to the public on Monday, including the entire west half, the central area and the parking lot, according to Ward 1 Councillor Ward Sutherland.
