Prince George celebrates 100 days to the 2015 Canada Winter Games

The 2015 Canada Winter Games are 100 days away and organizers are inviting the public to celebrate at Prince George’s newly-minted Canada Games Plaza.

The 100 Days Out Celebration will take place Tuesday in the renovated plaza and feature live music and fireworks.

Two-time Olympic gold medallist and Canada Games alumna Catriona Le May Doan will be on hand to run the torch into the plaza, which will officially change its name from Civic Plaza to Canada Games Plaza. Global BC’s Jay Janower, who grew up in Prince George, will run with the torch Tuesday afternoon.

The torch will then head tp neighbouring communities for Illuminate the North, a relay that will stop in Quesnel, Terrace and Fort St. John.

CEO Stuart Ballantyne says the next leg of the relay highlight the Games’ connection to northern B.C.

“This is a northern story,” says Ballantyne of the Games. “It’s northern B.C.’s chance to stand on a soapbox and tell Canada what we do up here.”
