CALGARY – Plans for a major redevelopment in Shawnee Slopes is going forward.
The private golf course has sold 131 acres close to Fish Creek Park to a developer who wants to build 1,600 homes in the area.
Nearby residents have rallied to stop the proposed project due to concerns over green space; however, Geo-Energy Enterprises says it will provide more green spaces and a pathway system for all members of the public to replace the existing private golf course.

“It will open up a whole bunch of land for public use; bicycle paths, walk ways, all meandering within the site and complete access through the community to Fish Creek Park,” says Ray Clark, a consultant to Geo-Energy Enterprises.
The developer says it is committed to saving 85 per cent of the trees in the area and every existing home will have 30 metres of green space behind it; it wants to demonstrate how redeveloping inner city communities can work well for everyone involved.
“We hope to go to the planning commission before Christmas and certainly hope to go before council before Christmas but that is all part of the process and we will get there when we get there for the public hearing,” says Clark.
Geo-Energy hopes to put a shovel in the ground next spring.
The golf course is holding an auction on Wednesday to sell off some of its inventory.
