MONTREAL – Thousands of people from across the province descended on downtown Montreal Friday to protest the government’s austerity budget.
Protesters met outside the Premier’s office at the corner of Sherbrooke street and McGill College to object the Liberal government’s plan to cut $3 billion from the provincial budget.
The protest was dubbed “Austerity: A horror story” by organizers because it’s taking place on Halloween.
It was declared illegal within half an hour of starting because police were not given a marching route.
Traffic is still bumper to bumper as a result of the midday demonstration, making it difficult to navigate through the downtown core.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
