LINDSAY, Ont. – A judgment is set to be delivered today in the election overspending trial of former Conservative MP Dean Del Mastro.

The now-Independent MP – who was once the Harper government’s point man on defending the Tories against charges of voter fraud – is charged with overspending during the 2008 federal election campaign.

He is also charged with failing to report a personal contribution of $21,000 to his own campaign and knowingly submitting a falsified document.

He has denied all the allegations and insists he did nothing wrong.

If found guilty, Del Mastro could face a fine of $1,000 and a year in jail.

He would not be barred from running for office again.
