VANCOUVER – A man police believe is a cell phone thief had his picture emailed to the owner, thanks to an app on the phone.
Langley RCMP say on Oct. 4 someone broke into a vehicle parked at Gold’s Gym in the 19900-block of 81A Avenue. Two cell phones were taken but one had a security app installed.
When someone enters an invalid password on that phone, it takes a photo and then emails it to the phone’s owner.
It is not known at this time what app this person was using, but there are a few apps that perform similar functions – Device Locator for iPhone and Lockwatch and Lookout for Android, for example.
If anyone recognizes this man they are asked to call Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
A few weeks ago, Coquitlam RCMP were able to catch a man who keyed a car at Belcarra Park because the car had a motion-activated camera on the dashboard.
