Visitor restrictions lifted at Prince Albert special care home

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. – All visitor restrictions have been lifted at a Prince Albert, Sask. special care home after a respiratory illness outbreak.

Restrictions were put in place 18-days ago after the outbreak occurred in the Lakeland Trail and Golden Hill unit at the Herb Bassett Home.

Twenty-two residents and six staff members became ill at the long-term facility and testing confirmed Entero-Rhinovirus was the cause of the outbreak.

Individuals who were showing symptoms were isolated.

The outbreak did not affect access to the Paradise Path unit.

Prince Albert Parkland Health Region officials are asking everyone visiting health care facilities to perform hand hygiene when entering and leaving the premises and not to visit any long-term care facility if you are ill.

Officials also say proper hand hygiene and cough etiquette reduces the risk of getting or spreading respiratory illnesses, including coughs and influenza.
