Second outbreak declared at Prince Albert nursing home

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. – The Prince Albert Parkland Health Region (PAPHR) implemented visitor restrictions Wednesday for a second unit at a special care facility.

Medical Health Officer Dr. Khami Chokani declared a second outbreak at the Herb Bassett Home after three people showed signs of a respiratory illness in the Golden Hill unit.

Laboratory analysis is being done to determine the organism responsible.

In the Lakeland Trail unit, lab tests have confirmed that Entero-Rhinovirus is the cause of the outbreak declared on Monday.

Ten individuals are now showing symptoms.

Visitors are asked to reschedule their visits; however, family members with reason to visit can call 306-765-6189 for further instructions.

Herb Bassett Home is a three-unit special care home located next to Victoria Hospital. The outbreaks are not affecting access to the Paradise Path unit.

Family Treatment Centre

Chokani also declared an outbreak Wednesday at the Family Treatment Centre and visitor restrictions are in place.

PAPHR says 5 people have shown signs of a gastrointestinal illness and two are also showing respiratory symptoms. Specimens are being collected for testing.

Family Treatment Centre is not accepting new clients during the outbreak.
