The victim’s family waited in the courthouse all day for the suspect to be charged.
However, the Crown told the court late Monday evening that for now no charges will be laid against the suspect, who is in his 20s.
The Crown prosecutor did not give any reason for its decision to release the suspect.
Saturday, officials went door-to-door in the neighbourhood where Dalcourt’s body was found to find clues or witnesses that could shed light on the incident.
When police arrested the suspect, they confirmed he is a Longueuil resident who does not live near to the crime scene.
They believed he acted alone.
Dalcourt was murdered on the bike path as she walked home from work alone late Tuesday night.
