West Vancouver Police bust up identity theft ring

Three people have been arrested after West Vancouver Police recovered hundreds of pieces of stolen mail, credit cards and identification.

As part of a police investigation into mail and identity theft, three suspects were tracked to a hotel on Boundary Road in Burnaby on October 22, where a search warrant was executed and goods recovered.

23-year-old Kimberly McSweeney of Squamish is facing charges of possession of stolen property and identity theft.

32-year-old Shawn David Lundrigan is charged with possession of stolen property and identity theft. 21-year-old Karajeet Kaur Ghuman of Burnaby is charged with two counts of Breach of Probation.

All three suspects remain in custody pending a court appearance on Monday.

West Vancouver Police advise taking the following steps to protect yourself from mail and identity theft:

When you move:

  • File a change of address with Canada Post
  • Advise your banks and other companies of your new address
  • If your bills fail to arrive, contact companies immediately to ensure bills have not been fraudulently redirected
  • Shred documents that contain personal financial information, such as statements and credit card offers
