Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for the South Coast.
Strong winds between 70 and 80 km/h are expected to develop over Metro Vancouver, Greater Victoria and the Southern Gulf Islands tonight.
Global BC meteorologist Kristi Gordon says the hardest hit areas will include Abbotsford, White Rock and Tsawwassen, and extend across the Strait of Georgia to the Southern Gulf Island and Greater Victoria.
“There is a good possibility we could see power outages in these areas because of downed tree branches,” says Godon.
BC Ferries says they are not expecting any weather-related cancellations this evening.
BC Ferries says the strongest gusts will be seen around midnight, after ships tie up for the night.
A rainfall warning was also issued for Metro Vancouver late Tuesday night.
Environment Canada says heavy rainfall with amounts of up to 60 mm is expected by early Wednesday morning.
It says heavy downpours can cause flash floods, water pooling on roads and localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Strong, damage-causing winds are also expected, but will ease overnight as the low moves into the Interior.
