VANCOUVER – RCMP officers in Campbell River are being credited for saving the life of a suicidal woman on Saturday night.
The woman was on her phone telling her family she was ready to end her life. Her family contacted police and they were able to trace her phone to Highway 28 near the Elk Falls exit.
When they arrived they found her vehicle and initiated a line search to find her. She was barely conscious when they did and the officers performed life-saving first aid. The woman was then transported to Campbell River General Hospital by BC Ambulance Service where she was admitted.
The efforts of our officers, along with the use of cell phone GPS information, led to a positive outcome in this situation
, said Jeff Preston, officer in charge of the Campbell River RCMP. We are hopeful that this woman will now receive the care and support she needs to overcome this difficult time in her life.
If you or somebody you know requires support, the Vancouver Island Crisis Line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-888-494-3888.
