Murs apologizes to Swift after knocking her for writing about exes

WATCH: Taylor Swift says she shouldn’t be singled out for writing songs about past relationships. In an interview, Swift accused her critics of being sexist. The Morning Show tackles the issue.

TORONTO — British singer Olly Murs apologized Monday to Taylor Swift after she said it was “sexist” to criticize her for writing songs about ex-boyfriends.

Murs, who had earlier knocked Swift for penning “Out of the Woods” about her relationship with One Direction star Harry Styles, told Daily Mail Australia he reached out to Swift to say sorry.

On a radio show last week, Murs said: “Come on, let it go. Write something that isn’t about Harry. Bless him, it’s been like two years and he’s still getting lashed out, isn’t he?”

Swift fired back during an interview on an Australian radio station.

“You’re going to have people who are going to see the depth from which you approached a song. The fact that you put your real emotions into it and that that’s valuable and that’s good and that’s real,” she said. “And then you’re going to have people who say ‘oh you know, she just writes songs about her ex boyfriends.’

“Frankly that’s a very sexist angle to take. No one says that about Ed Sheeran. No one says it about Bruno Mars. They’re all writing songs about their exes, their current girlfriends, their love-life, and no one raises a red flag there.”

Murs said Monday he didn’t mean any offence. “I’m really sorry. It came out wrong,” he said. “It wasn’t nice what I said but it was a joke. I didn’t expect it to blow up like it did.”
