UPDATE: Mounties seize vehicle involved in hit and run that injured RCMP officer

REGINA – An RCMP officer is in serious condition after a hit and run west of Regina early Sunday morning.

It started when White Butte RCMP were called to an event centre in the R.M. of Sherwood around 1:10 a.m. after firearm threats were made at a gathering.

Three officers arrested a 56-year-old man near the event centre.

During the arrest, a red or wine coloured 2014 Jeep Cherokee drove towards the Mounties and the suspect, striking two officers and the suspect and side-swiping an unmarked police vehicle.

A 42-year-old constable was rushed to a Regina hospital with serious injuries.

A second constable received minor injuries. He has been treated and released.

The suspect received unknown, but non-life threatening injuries.

Mounties fired shots in an attempt to stop the Jeep. The driver slowed down then drove away from the scene.

Officers later seized the vehicle believed to be involved in the incident but aren’t releasing details on where it was located.

Police say the vehicle has damage consistent with the incident which occurred early in the morning and is being examined by the forensic identification unit.
