The 2015 Canada Winter Games Torch Relay made its way to the steps of the B.C. legislature Friday en route to Prince George, which will host the Games next year. Team BC athletes and B.C. Sport Minister Coralee Oakes were among those on hand to welcome the torch, which was lit in Ottawa Thursday.
The torch will travel thousands of kilometres before arriving in Prince George on Nov. 4. It will be in Vancouver tomorrow for a stop at the BC Sports Hall of Fame before heading to New Westminster/Burnaby, host of the 1973 Canada Summer Games, on Monday. The torch will also visit former host city Kamloops and several northern B.C. communities including Quesnel, Terrace and Fort St. John. Global BC’s Jay Janower will be one of the torch bearers.
The 2015 Canada Winter Games will take place from Feb. 14 to March 1. The event will be the largest multi-sport and cultural event to ever be held in northern B.C.
