TORONTO – Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating a fatal police shooting that happened inside an Oakville hotel Friday morning.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) say Halton police responded to an incident at the Monte Carlo Inns on 374 South Service Road near Trafalgar Road just before 6 a.m.
The 41-year-old male victim was shot by a police officer following “an interaction” with police.
The man was transported to Hamilton General Hospital in life-threatening condition but later succumbed to his injuries.
The SIU probes all police-related incidents involving death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
The watchdog organization has assigned seven investigators and three forensic investigators to the case.
