VANCOUVER – Day parole has been granted to a man involved in a hit and run crash that killed two people in Vancouver.
The National Parole Board has concluded the risk of releasing Paul Antunes into the community can be managed.
The decision was made even after the case manager indicated it was premature as Antunes lacks remorse.
In 2010 Antunes was sentenced to five and a half years in prison for criminal negligence causing death.
In 2005 the Porsche Cayenne he was driving ran a red light at a West Hastings intersection and hit three men, killing two.
Antunes left the scene and was arrested ten months after the 2005 crash.
While on day parole Antunes must stay away from drugs and alcohol.
His parole will be reviewed in six months.
