16×9 wins prestigious Beyond Borders award

16×9 has once again been honoured for their hard work and dedication, winning the 2014 Beyond Borders ECPAT Media Award for English Electronic.

16×9 producer, Brennan Leffler and 16×9 correspondent, Jennifer Tryon were recognized for their work on “A City’s Shame”, and their follow up investigation “Out of Shadows”, where they uncovered at least 40 victims who say they were sexually assaulted by a former Saint John, N.B. Police officer, Kenneth Estabrooks.

WATCH BELOW: 16×9’s investigation “Out of Shawdows”

After 16×9 aired “A City’s Shame”, investigators hired by the city of Saint John came forward publicly to say Estabrooks sexually abused at least 260 children over the course of nearly three decades dating back to the late 1950s.

The Beyond Borders awards honour Canadian journalists for exemplary work covering the topic of child sexual exploitation.

The winners will receive their awards at a ceremony on November 17th, 2014 at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
