WINNIPEG – Mayoral candidate Judy Wasylycia-Leis says she’ll spend the last week of the campaign repeating earlier promises.
Wasylycia-Leis spoke to reporters Tuesday morning on Roblin Boulevard, pointing to her earlier pledge to spend $60 million over five years on road repairs, in addition to the $340 million already planned by city hall, for a total of $400 million.
The final days of her campaign will feature similar reruns, she said.
“We’re in the last week of the campaign. It is very important for Winnipeggers to hear where each candidate stands and to hear again our proposals for fixing the city,” Wasylycia-Leis said.

She also alluded to her front-runner status, with all polls so far putting her comfortably in front of her rivals.
“I’m confident my message is getting out — you’ve seen some of the results from polls,” Waylycia-Leis said. “There is a belief in my campaign. It’s my job to bring it home.”
The road repair re-announcement wasn’t without some confusion, however. Reporters pointed out that she had also promised to spend $20 million on “active transportation” bike and pedestrian paths and that would add up to more than $400 million in infrastructure spending.
Wasylycia-Leis said the active transportation funding would actually come from the road repair spending already committed by city hall.
The election is Oct. 22.
