TORONTO – Have you ever dreamed about venturing into space and getting your name down in history? Well NASA has come up with a plan to help you. Sort of.

Instead of boarding a spaceship, NASA is offering to give you a boarding pass with your name on it that will head into space — twice or more.

The space agency will put your name on a dime-sized microchip that will launch aboard the test flight of its new Orion spacecraft.

Orion is a crew vehicle designed to take astronauts on missions to places such as the moon.

After the launch, the spacecraft will conduct a four-and-a-half, two-orbit mission around Earth to test its systems. It will then re-enter the atmosphere at 32,000 km/h and reach searing temperatures of 2,200 Celsius before splashing down in the Pacific Ocean.

Not good enough? There’s more.

Your name will then fly on future missions to Mars.

The deadline for obtaining your boarding pass for Orion is Oct. 31. But if you miss that chance, you’ll get another opportunity at a later date.
