A coroner has ruled the death of a Lumby man as accidental.

Brandon Beday, 33, was working at a B.C. Hydro substation in Cranbrook last year when he was electrocuted.

Beday worked as an electrician out of B.C. Hydro’s construction services operation in Vernon.

He was being directed by a technologist and had been told the power had been turned off when in fact it wasn’t.

The technologist was called away to help another electrician and Beday was electrocuted.

Hydro and WorkSafe investigations found there was no labeling to show whether the power was on or off, the technologist only labeled 50% of the time and did not test the power first.

Hydro will put a procedure in place to properly and safely do the job, and a safety task force will make recommendations.
