TORONTO — Fifty Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan is returning to Vancouver this month to begin work on a supernatural thriller opposite Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul.
The 9th Life of Louis Drax is scheduled to be filmed in B.C. from Oct. 27 to Dec. 15.
Dornan will play Dr. Allan Pascal, a psychologist who finds himself drawn into the circumstances of a young boy’s near-fatal fall.
The 32-year-old actor spent several months in Vancouver last year starring as Christian Grey in the big screen adaptation of Fifty Shades. He also had a recurring role on the B.C.-shot series Once Upon a Time.
In Louis Drax, Paul will play the boy’s father and Toronto actress Sarah Gadon (Dracula Untold, The Amazing Spider-Man 2) will play the boy’s mother.
The movie is based on British author Liz Jensen’s novel of the same name. It was originally set to be adapted for the big screen by director Anthony Minghella (The English Patient), who died in 2008.
Minghella’s son, actor Max Minghella wrote the screenplay for the new version, which will be directed by Alexandre Aja — who made the Daniel Radcliffe movie Horns in Vancouver.
John Travolta and Kate Bosworth are currently in the city shooting Life on the Line. Parts of The Revenant, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, are also being filmed in B.C.
