It’s been almost a year since 22-year-old British tourist Tom Billings went missing in Vancouver, and today search and rescue crews were unsuccessful in their continued search into his disappearance.

Mike Danks with North Shore Search and Rescue told Global News a team of 36 people in the field, and a command staff of five spent the day combing the area where Billings disappeared.

“It’s tough because we really want to provide closure for family members,” said Danks. At this point, no further search operations are planned.

Billings was in Vancouver for a brief visit in November of last year. He was supposed to return to England on Dec. 7.

Tom was last seen in the 1400-block of East Broadway on the morning of Nov. 25.

He was an avid hiker. A tip from someone who gave Billings directions to Lynn Headwaters in the back country led to an extensive search of the North Shore mountains, but with no success.

In January, it was alleged two female hikers may have seen Billings in the Lynn Headwaters area the day he went missing.

North Shore Rescue devoted hundreds of hours searching for Billings to bring his family closure.

Tom’s father, Martin Billings, travelled to Vancouver in the weeks after Billings’ disappearance to make an emotional plea for information. The family has also paid search and rescue crews to keep the search for their son going.

“I think at this point it’s probably going to be a member of the public that comes across him,” said Danks.

Billings is described as Caucasian, 5’7” tall, 160 pounds, with blonde short hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a black jacket and grey military style pants.
