VANCOUVER – After a break in 2013, TedxVancouver is returning this year to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
With only a limited number of tickets available, the event promises to give attendees a lot to think about and a lot to see.
Tedx is an independently organized event from Ted Talks, but still has a wide range of speakers all based around a central theme.
“This year I feel like it’s our strongest theme we’ve ever had,” said Jordan Kallman, president of TedxVancouver.
The theme this year is ’tilt’ and the day of talks looks at what that word can mean in relation to our lives.

“The sequence begins where most people live and that’s in our comfort zone, in tradition,” said Kallman. “The moment of tilt is when you step outside your comfort zone.”
The speakers throughout the day will look at tradition, that moment of tilt and finally triumph.
“The way we’re defining it is that it does make you better,” said Kallman.
He added that this is the first time the event has curated speakers to fit within a larger story arc and what it means for your life to ’tilt’.
This year speakers include former Whitecaps captain Jay DeMerit, Dr. Jennifer Gardy, host of The Nature of Things documentary Myth or Science, and Chip Wilson, Canadian businessman and founder of Lululemon.
“This year we opened up speaker nominations on our website,” said Kallman, adding that they were very successful and are just finalizing the final round of speakers now.
Tickets can still be purchased for the event, which is taking place on Oct. 18 starting at 8 a.m.
