Victim’s father relives the tragedy as Magnotta trial begins

MONTREAL- The father of murdered Concordia student, Jun Lin, held a press conference Monday afternoon.

Through his lawyers, Diran Lin relayed his thoughts on the first day of the Luka Magnotta trial.

“He’s sad. This morning was difficult,” explained family lawyer, Daniel Urbas.

Lawyers say the day of intense testimony went better for Lin once he was moved into a private room adjacent to the courtroom.

Three spaces for Jun Lin’s family members are reserved in the main courtroom.

However, lawyers say Lin prefers the private room where he can get everything translated into Mandarin, including explanations of the court proceedings.

It is also a help to him that the accused cannot be seen.

“The court has been sensitive,” said Urbas.

“More than it needs to be and he is grateful for that.”

Jun Lin’s sister and mother decided to stay in China for the duration of the trial.

The family’s lawyer explained that when both came to Canada for the preliminary hearing they were unable to even come close to the courthouse.
